Welcome to FBJJ Kids!
At Foster Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (FBJJ), we believe that martial arts can build a strong foundation for success both mentally and physically. How do we accomplish this? By making it fun!
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how is it different from Karate, Taekwondo, Kung fu and other martial arts?
More similar to Judo or wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling and ground fighting technique that focuses on using flexibility and leverage to allow a smaller, weaker opponent to defend them self against a larger, stronger opponent. This makes BJJ ideal for children, regardless of their size or athletic ability. BJJ is designed to conquer your opponent without causing too much pain. The goal is to make your opponent submit or “tapout” before injury. Training in BJJ promotes physical fitness, respect, discipline, and strength both mentally and physically.
What we do…
Build Self-Esteem and Confidence
Self confidence doesn’t come naturally for many children. Over time, as a child accomplishes new goals, his or her self-confidence level increases. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu presents new and fun challenges that help them build a foundation of confidence. This process helps them build a mental library of success that they can draw from in the future. A child with a high sense of self-esteem will stand up for him or herself, be more out spoken and more compassionate to others in need of help.
Discipline and Respect
The strong team environment present in all of our classes makes respect, discipline and focus come naturally. Your child will gain a better understanding of what “respect” is and why it’s important to show it to others as well as themselves. Children who participate in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are proven to have better attention spans. Every child in our program will learn to follow directions, pay attention, and work as a team as they participate in class activities. These skills will help them become better students in school.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu challenges the entire body by developing balance, coordination, and flexibility. All valuable traits not only for BJJ but for any other sport they may choose in the future.
Our great instructors will constantly stress in class, the value of when to use their newly acquired skills. Your child will learn not to be a bully and learn practical self defense for life-threatening situations only. Much of martial arts is not about fighting others as it is about fighting your own fears or insecurities. Your child’s ability to defend his or her self is important, but not feeling the need to fight is the real lesson of martial arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an ideal method of self defense for kids because it emphasizes leverage and technique over strength and power. The goal of BJJ is to submit their opponent without the use of punching and kicking, decreasing the need to use excessive force in a real life self-defense situation. All children can excel in this sport regardless of size or athletic ability.
